New Zealand study on emotional reaction after abortion

British Journal of Psychiatry - 85% of women have at least one negative reaction after abortion. An on-going New Zealand study has found that abortion was associated with both positive and negative emotional reactions. The latest findings follow two other studies led by the same researcher that also linked abortion to higher rates of mental health problems. In this study, 35% reported five or more negative reactions. The research team concluded that "many women experience a mixture of both positive and negative emotions about having an abortion," but said that that the results do not support the belief that abortion is better for women than unwanted or unplanned pregnancy.
