My daughter is pregnant

It may have come as a shock to you and your daughter to find out she is pregnant, there are several options that she can consider.

What about abortion?

Your daughter can seek an abortion regardless of her age, and she has the right for it to remain confidential, as long as two doctors have agreed that it is in her best interests. However, her GP will usually encourage her to involve her parents or another adult in the process. For more information on abortion, visit our What about abortion page.

What about keeping the baby?

If your daughter decides she wants to keep the baby, there is lots of help available. If she is still in full time education she may be entitled to a "Care to Learn" grant to help pay for childcare costs while studying. Visit for more information. To find out more about support available go to our What about having a baby page.

If you think that adoption might be something your daughter wants to consider, have a look at our What about adoption page.
She can talk through her options with one of our trained advisors, she might like to call our Telephone Helpline on 0300 4000 999 or click here to speak to an Online Advisor.

If you would like someone to talk things through with or if you have a question about something that isn’t included here, you might like to call our Telephone Helpline on 0300 4000 999 or click here to speak to an Online Advisor.
