I am pregnant

If you haven’t done so already, it’s a good idea to confirm your pregnancy by taking a test. For more information go to I might be pregnant.

If you have taken a test and are definitely pregnant the following information will help you to consider what to do next.

My options

I'm happy I'm pregnant

You may feel that it is a clear decision for you to continue with the pregnancy. If so contact your GP to arrange your antenatal care. Visit www.nhs.uk for more information. If you would like to talk through your feelings with an advisor, call us on 0300 4000 999 or click here to speak to an online advisor.

I'm not sure I want to be pregnant

For some people, finding out they are pregnant can be a scary and daunting experience. If you are facing an unintended pregnancy you do not need to feel alone. We can help you think through all your options and give you support and advice at every stage of your decision. Just call us on 0300 4000 999, or click here to speak to an online advisor.

As well as choosing to become a parent, the other options open to you are:
  • To have an abortion
  • To consider continuing with the pregnancy and have the baby adopted

A common response to an unintended pregnancy is to feel like you want to make a decision quickly, or for the problem to just go away. Try to give yourself time to think through all your options before you make a decision. Sometimes, talking things through can help you understand your feelings and weigh up which decision is best for you.

It may be helpful to consider what you might gain and lose in each of these situations. Perhaps start by writing down your feelings. Your gains and losses may be a mixture of practical things:
  • Money
  • Timing
  • Education
  • Job prospects

You may also consider other things like:
  • Feeling secure
  • Feeling at peace with yourself
  • The impact of your choices on your family or other relationships

Have a think about how important each of your gains and losses are to you.

We are here for you

We can help you work through your feelings in a safe and confidential environment. You may feel comfortable just talking to someone on the phone. Our advisors are available on 0300 4000 999.
